April volumes grow steadily


Eurex, as usual, dominated exchange volumes last month, notching up a 40% increase in volume in April, compared to 2002, resulting in a total of 79m contracts traded. This brought year-to-date volume at the exchange to 344m, with the exchange still on course, at current growth rates, to trade more than one billion contracts this year.

Eurex's highest volume was in its fixed income segment, where 43m contracts traded. The Euro-Bund traded 18.6m contracts, 43% more than April last year, while the Euro-Bobl traded 11.3m, up 38%, and the Euro-Schatz, traded over 9m, up 15%.

In equity derivatives, Eurex traded more than 35m contracts, comprising 19.9m in equity index derivatives and 15.6m in equity options, which set a new monthly volume record.
