US Hedge funds brought to the regulation table


Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) will discuss regulation of the US hedge fund industry on Wednesday and Thursday.

The regulator will host a roundtable discussion in Washington on several hedge fund industry issues, including the structure, operation and compliance activities of hedge funds; marketing, investor protection and whether more regulation is required.

Even though the event is merely a roundtable chat, the fact that SEC is considering greater oversight has created a buzz that regulations are on the way for the hedge fund industry. Unlike the UK, the US hedge fund industry is more-or-less unregulated. And any talk of regulatory monitoring leads many hedge fund managers...
