Eurex traded 78m contracts during May, up 31.5% year-on-year and bringing year-to-date volume to 422m contracts, 40% higher than the same period in 2002.
The exchange's fixed income segment accounted for 45m contracts - 19.5m of them traded in the Euro-Bund future, which itself reached a record daily volume last week of 2.1m contracts, beating its previous high of 1.8m contracts traded on 5 September last year. The exchange said this was the first time a contract had breached the two million mark in one day.
