Mako Group has appointed James Carney head of US equities. Based in New York, he will spearhead the expansion of Mako's equity electronic trading operations in the US and reports to Paul Britton, ceo of Mako's US operations. Before joining Mako, Carney set up and managed Nordic Options New York, the US branch of the London-based option specialist where he spent several years trading Eurex, Liffe and OMLX markets. Nordic Options was later sold to Bear Wagner Securities where Carney was made partner, responsible for running the International Securities Exchange (ISE) desk. He started his career in Chicago as a market maker before going on to direct the development of the fully computerised options trading system MIDAS as an independent market maker on London-based OMLX.
