New York Mercantile Exchange has confirmed Mitchell Steinhause as its new chairman for the next three years, replacing Vinnie Viola. Elected unopposed, Steinhause has been vice chairman of the exchange for the past four years, a member of the executive committee for the past ten years, and a member of the board since 1992. The following were also elected to other positions on the exchange board of directors: Gordon Rutledge, Michael McCallion, Gary Rizzi, Stephen Forman, Kenneth Garland, Michel Marks, Robert Steele and Harley Lippman.

Chicago Mercantile Exchange, has drafted in five prominent financial experts to form a think tank to develop policy analyses and position papers on significant competitive market issues. The Competitive Markets Advisory Council will comprise Nobel laureates Myron Scholes, Gary Becker and Robert Merton, as well as John Gould and David Hale.
