April volumes up


Chicago Board of Trade (CBoT)'s volume growth continued in April as the exchange experienced its second consecutive record trading month. April trading was up 75% on last year at over 53.5m, as average daily volume rose to 2.5m. April records included five-year Treasury note futures reaching 7.8m, ten-year Treasury note options climbing to a 6.4m best and a total daily open interest record of 12m contracts on 21 April.

Across town, Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) also reported record activity, average daily volume in April totaling 3.3m, a 44% increase on April 2003 and the second month in a row that the figure has exceeded 3m. Interest rate futures and options...
