Volumes on the world's largest exchanges remained strong in June, ensuring a record first half in 2004.
Eurex, Euronext Liffe, Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) and Chicago Board of Trade (CBoT) all set six-month figures higher than last year, the European exchanges up 5.5% and 24.1% and the Chicago bourses up 25.1% and 39.9% respectively.
CBoT's June growth was largely driven by its agricultural markets experiencing significant gains in volume. The exchange saw average daily volume in June rise 15.3% from June 2003 levels to over 2.25m contracts. Total exchange open interest at...
