CFTC sails on without a captain


With the departure of chairman Jim Newsome (see People, p7), industry watchers are waiting to see who will become the next head of Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), which now has less than half its full complement of commissioners.

Walt Lukken and Sharon Brown-Hruska are now the only remaining commissioners: a fully-staffed CFTC has five, with one serving as chairman. Both remaining commissioners are republicans, as is Newsome. CFTC rules state that "no more than three commissioners at any one time...
