Courting controversyThere's a certain irony in the fact that Trading Technologies' first use of their new patents was to sue Espeed, seeing as how Espeed have been doing the same thing with the Wagner patent for years. Of course, TT are quick to point out that the circumstances are totally different because they developed the technology they've patented (exchange traded contracts for future delivery of a product, or some such revolutionary breakthrough), while Espeed just bought theirs. Even so, it's not hard to predict how the fan clubs are going to split up. Backing Espeed, one can see a whole bunch of ISVs, fearful that they might be the next to receive Harris Brumfield's writ, which I am told should be filed under the legal definition 'All Your Base Are Belong To Us' (thanks again to my son Sebastian for that curious phrase). Behind TT could be various smirking...
