So much more refined than mere theft, it implies a sort of casual, almost accidental attitude to robbery, as if one hadn't really considered the wider impact of running off to Rio with a suitcase full of used tenners. Therefore, I was delighted to read recently of former CBOE technology VP John Vanstedum, who has chosen to plead guilty to charges that he misappropriated $150,000 from the exchange in 1992. According to the charges levelled against him, Vanstedum had claimed to need the money to make improvements to CBOE's data centre, but instead trousered the lot.
