RCG strikes back as TT patent cases multiply


In filings with Northern Illinois District Court (NIDC) and Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois, Chicago-based broker Rosenthal Collins Group (RCG) has brought cases against Trading Technologies (TT) describing the ISV as anticompetitive and monopolistic in its patent infringement battle.

In the NIDC filing, RCG claimed that on 20 June it had been contacted by TT's intellectual property lawyer, Steve Borsand, saying that the proprietary RCG Onyx software system violated TT's patents. The broker was offered a settlement agreement, it said.

However, RCG insisted that it was not in violation and that, while no lawsuit had been filed by press time, it believed that "TT intends to file and will file a patent infringement suit? if RCG refuses to acquiesce to TT's settlement demands." The practice of filing in advance...
