Speculation mounted last week that Eurex may be about to close its struggling US subsidiary, Eurex US, as its prospects were set to come under scrutiny from the supervisory boards of parent companies Deutsche Börse and SWX Swiss Exchange.
During a conference call on 9 August, Deutsche Börse CFO Mathias Hlubek told analysts that the future of Eurex's presence in the US will be decided in early September.
"We are in the midst of committee discussions and we mustn't forget that Eurex is a joint venture, so there will be meetings of the Eurex owner boards at the end of August [and] beginning of September where we will discuss the issue; we think the process will be completed in early September.
