United they standFascinating news last week regarding CBoT's decision not to go ahead with discussions about a possible takeover; at least it would be fascinating news if we had ever known who on earth the bidder, or bidders, were. Of course, that didn't stop us gentlemen of the press - amongst others, it must be said - speculating wildly on who had thrown their hat in the ring. Reports confidently stated that the bidder was definitely, 100%, absolutely CME, seemingly based on the assumption that, well, that it just had to be, didn't it? Speculate to accumulate, I say: if you're proved wrong in the long run no-one will remember your story anyway whereas if you're right you can trumpet your soothsaying abilities to the heavens.
