CBoT, SGX develop Asian commodities contracts


Chicago Board of Trade (CBoT) and Singapore Exchange (SGX) announced an MOU on 23 August with the intention of creating a new market that focusing on Asian-based commodities.

The two exchanges could have the electronic market set as early as the first half of 2006, with trading occurring on CBoT's E-CBoT electronic trading platform and then cleared by SGX.

Officials from both exchanges would not discuss exactly which commodities were being considered, though sources told FO Week the first contract may be palm oil futures with rubber and three to four others likely by mid 2006.
