Associations lead calls for eased transatlantic regulation


A report published last week by a conglomerate of industry associations has outlined a wish list of key industry actions to work towards a more coherent transatlantic regulatory framework for capital markets.

The associations were ABA Securities Association, Bankers' Association for Finance and Trade, British Bankers' Association, Futures Industry Association (FIA), Futures and Options Association (FOA) and Securities Industry Association.

FOA chief executive Anthony Belchambers told FO Week his association had instigated the work in order to include regulators, exchanges and firms in a more productive debate than what he described as some of the "sterile" conversations the industry has so far seen between regulatory bodies.
