Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) launched a flurry of new contracts last week with mini-sized equity options, one-week options and gas at the pump futures on subsidiary CBOE Futures Exchange.
Mini-SPX options, launched on 25 October and based on the Standard & Poor's (S&P) 500 Index, traded 34,974 and 48,496 contracts on days one and two respectively. The new contract is one tenth the size of a full-value SPX options contract, which has been the most actively traded product at CBOE. Last week marked the busiest week for SPX contacts at the exchange, with over 2.7m contracts traded.
