New York Mercantile Exchange (Nymex) has announced that its copper futures contracts set an annual volume record. As of 20 October, 3.2m contracts had been traded this year. Exchange president Jim Newsome said, "This record reflects the continued interest in our metals complex contracts. We are pleased that the exchange has met the needs of this market, which has seen unprecedented demand from Asia this year."

Nymex also revealed a seat sale of $3m on the same day, surpassing the $2.9m record set on 27 September.

Average daily volume on Boston Options Exchange (BOX) for the week of 17-21 October was 515,557 contracts, the highest in the exchange's history. Average daily volume for the first three weeks of October was 467,179 contracts, a 37.7% increase over September and a 165.2% increase over the same period last year.
