CBoT looks to expand alternative energies


Chicago Board of Trade (CBoT), which launched a corn-based ethanol contract last March, has been considering expansion of its alternative energy contracts with biodiesel contract.

Exchange president and CEO Bernie Dan said that biodeisel fuel, which can be produced from soybeans among other agricultural products, may be a good fit for its alternative fuels category.

"We're watching the underlying biodiesel market develop," Dan said. "Biodesiel is derived in part from soybeans. That's a small cash market today but it's clearly in line directionally with what we could combine...
