Chicago Board of Trade (CBoT) set a new record for exchange-wide open interest for the second time in the week running 15-19 May.
The new open interest record of 17.01m contracts set on 17 May topped the earlier record of 16.84m contracts set on 15 May. The exchange also enjoyed a record day on 17 May in its equity index complex with 213,245 futures and options contracts trading hands. The prior record, 202,432 contracts, was set on 6 October last year. CBoT attributed the high volume to record activity in its mini-sized Dow Jones futures contract, where volume climbed to 195,084 contracts, eclipsing the prior record of 186,544 contracts, also set on 6 October 2005.

India's National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange launched futures contracts on nickel cathode, aluminum ingots and zinc ingots on 22 May.
