Chicago Board of Trade (CBoT)'s federal fund futures contract set a record on 8 August as volume surged to 286,935 contracts.
The previous high mark of 262,840 contracts, was set on 4 August, 2006. The exchange's new binary options on the federal funds target rate contracts also set a record on the same day with 769 contracts. The previous record, 745 contracts, was set the day before.

ICE Futures' WTI Crude futures traded a record 241,503 contracts on 7 August, exceeding the record set on 13 July by 34.9%. Total volume reached 567,361 contracts, surpassing the previous best, set on 19 July, of 497,692 contracts. For the first time in the exchange's 25-year history, total volume exceeded 500,000 contracts in a single day. Its Brent crude futures also set a new open interest record on 7 August of 529,019.
