New York Mercantile Exchange (Nymex) set an all time average daily volume record for January of 1.65m contracts per day, a 45% increase on the 1.1m contracts per day in the same period last year. Nymex's electronic volume on Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME)'s Globex electronic trading platform was 625,000 contracts per day - a 538% increase over the January 2006 electronic volume on Nymex Access. Meanwhile, Nymex's floor-traded energy futures and options averaged 396,000 contracts per day for January. ADV on Nymex's ClearPort OTC clearing platform increased 57% last month to 418,000 contracts, from 266,000 contracts in thecomparable period of 2006.
