Options Industry Council recorded that the total volume of options traded rose by 28.2% in February compared to the same period last year. In addition the volume of equity options traded for February 2007 rose by 27% compared to the trading volumes in February 2006. The number of options traded reached 188.25m, while the number of equity options surpassed the 1.31m traded in February 2006, when 1.66m options were traded.

The number of contracts traded on Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) in February rose by 35% compared to the number of contracts traded a year earlier. The total volume of contracts traded reached 61.3m exceeding the 45.4m recorded in February 2006.

CBOE has recorded its busiest trading week in its history. Trading from 26 March through to 2 February reached 23.3m contracts surpassing the 22.2m contracts traded in the week of 15-19 May. The...
