NYSE/Euronext setting up US futures and clearing

NYSE/Euronext plans to launch a US futures exchange within the year while also considering building its own clearinghouse.
Jerry Putnam, president and co-chief operating officer of NYSE/Euronext, said an effort is underway to file with Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) plans for a US futures exchange that initially would list Euronext Liffe products starting with stock index futures such as the CAC 40 and FTSE futures. A launch date is not set but the CFTC process for creating a new futures exchange is estimated to take about six months.
