Deregulation plans in disarray
The year-long effort to pass legislation that would bring sweeping deregulation to the US futures industry is in serious danger of coming to naught, according to Washington insiders. Their fears were under scored last week when Richard Lugar, chairman of the Senate Agriculture Committee, said that his proposed legislation had been put on hold indefinitely until conflicting parties resolve their differences.
