Options Clearing Corporation (OCC) reached a new daily trading volume record on 16 August when 23.75m contracts were traded, 11% higher than the previous record of 21.31m set 26 July. Equity options trading set a new record with 20.24m contracts, a seven percent increase over the previous record of 18.95m contracts, also set 26 July. Open interest peaked at 309.21m contracts, also claiming a new record. This volume marks the third record trading day in the past four weeks, a period that has seen eight of the ten highest trading volume days.

CME Group set a number of new records in its financial contracts on 16 August, marking its second highest trading day for combined total and electronic trading volume.
