Philadelphia Stock Exchange (PHLX)’s currency options slumped in October while equity options volume jumped during the month. Trading volume in PHLX’s customised and standardised currency options for October was 36.28% lower than September volume with a total 1,087 contracts traded. Year-on-year volume was even more disappointing with October seeing a decrease of 88.49% compared to the same period in 2006 when 9,445 contracts traded. Equity options, however, jumped 59.25% in October with 42.22m contracts traded compared to 26.51m in the same period a year earlier. October’s equity options volume was 46.07% higher than the previous month’s volume while year-to-date volume rose 51.62%. Volume on the exchange’s six newly traded World Currency Options (WCOs) rose 79.57% in October when 424,911 contracts traded compared to the 236,633 contracts traded during September.
