Eurex traded 179m contracts in February, an increase of 32% as against a year earlier when 136m contracts were traded. The average daily turnover for the month was 8.5m contracts compared with 6.7m in February 2007. Equity-index derivatives once again are the largest segment – as the number of contracts traded rose by 63% year-on-year to 76m, surpassing the trading volumes in February 2007 of 46.6m. The option on the Dow Jones Euro STOXX 50 index reached its second-best month with around 32m contracts, exceeding that recorded one year prior of 18m contracts. Eurex’s equity derivatives segment rose to 30.3m contracts after 25.6m in February 2007, an increase of 18%. The fixed-income derivatives segment improved compared with the previous month but also year-on-year. 72m contracts were traded, in January 2008 it was 70m contracts and in February 2007 approx. 63m contracts.
