Spanish exchange, Meff, reported a 60% increase in trading during the first quarter of 2008 with a total of 17.4m contracts. The equity futures segment was the strongest asset class with 8.5m contracts traded, up 126%, while IBEX 35 options, with 2.2m contracts, were up 74% against the same period of 2007.
Nasdaq OMX recorded a 26% increase in average daily volume during March compared to a year earlier. Average daily volume in totalled 575,225, surpassing the 457,762 contracts traded during the same period in 2007. An additional 163,766 Nordic equity derivative contracts traded on EDX in March 2008 up 23% from 133,092 in March 2007.
