Australian emissions trading hots up


The Australian Securities Exchange has reaffirmed its desire to host an Australian emissions trading scheme as the country’s government this week revealed details of its carbon cap-and-trade plans. Upstart platform Financial and Energy Exchange (FEX), meanwhile, has also staked its claim to a position in the emissions trading business.

“Upon the passing of legislation to underpin Australia’s ETS, standardized forms of trading agreements for the OTC markets together with exchange-based trading in emission permits at ASX will complete the picture of price discovery and risk transfer mechanisms that firms will need to manage their market risks,” said Robert Elstone, ASX’s managing director and CEO.
