ASX talks opportunities despite derivatives slide


The chief executive of the Australian Securities Exch-ange has acknowledged that wider credit market conditions have started to bite in the exchange’s derivatives business. However, he also reaffirmed plans to boost business through a new derivatives trading platform and possible collaborations with international exchanges.

After reporting a small increase in annual trading volume in its August 14 results — up 2.7% year-on-year — ASX’s futures volume declined 18% in the first two weeks of August to a daily average of 272,642 while equity options suffered even more, with daily volume falling by 33% to 2.2m....
