August volumes down – but only because August 2007 was a freak month


Figures released by Eurex, the International Securities Exchange, the Options Industry Council and the Chicago Board Options Exchange show that futures and options trading volumes this August were down significantly compared to the same period last year – but that is partly because trading volumes in August 2007 broke records for the month.

Eurex reported 126.2m contracts traded this August, down 28% from 175.1m in the same period last year.
