CME Group’s new group of natural gas liquids swaps futures began trading on Monday November 3, with about 1,500 trades on day one.
The contracts were launched at the same time as two plastics futures – the CME’s first in that commodity – and two gasoil contracts, as part of an expansion of CME’s business in over-the-counter energy derivatives.
However, the launches come at a time when petrochemical prices have shrivelled, as the plastics industry and traders reposition for a global recession.
