Interest rate recovery boosts CME Group, but May volumes still down


CME Group has said trading volume during May averaged 10.7m contracts per day, down 15% from May 2008, but up 17% from April 2009 as trading across the exchange’s suite of interest rate derivatives soared to a 2009 record.

The exchange said total volume totalled 214m contracts during May, but the level of activity failed to match the 223m contracts traded one year earlier.
