Idem leads growth at LSE’s exchangesThe electronic derivatives markets of the London Stock Exchange Group enjoyed growth in trading volume in 2009. Combined electronic volume at EDX London and the Italian Derivatives Exchange Market was 105.4m contracts, up 10% from 95.8m in 2008. Most of the growth came from Idem, which majors in equity futures and options. Volume there swelled by 19% from 35.8m contracts to a record 42.6m.The London market grew by a more modest 4.7%, from 60m to 62.8m contracts.The total notional value traded on the two exchanges fell, however, from £1.47tr or Eu1.86tr in 2008 to £964bn or Eu1.08tr.December was not a particularly strong month for the exchanges, relative to the previous year.
