CFTC budget may soar in 2011
US President Obama’s fiscal budget proposal for 2011 could increase the Commodity Futures Trading Commission’s budget by up to 55%. CFTC Chairman Gary Gensler said in an emailed statement that: “I am pleased that the president’s budget request provides a much-needed funding increase to better enable the CFTC to regulate the markets and protect the American public.”

OCC volume grows 22% year-on-yearThroughput at the Options Clearing Council was 22% higher last month than in January 2009. The average daily volume was 16,500,000. Exchange-listed options volume rose 21% year-on-year. The total number of futures cleared also grew 914%...
