APX-Endex, Rotterdam port plan exchange for biomass trading

APX-Endex, the Anglo-Dutch electricity and gas exchange, is to cooperate with the Port of Rotterdam in a feasibility study on starting exchange trading of biomass products.

The study will focus on wood pellets, which can be used as an alternative to coal as a likely first product. It will examine whether APX-Endex could create a market for trading and clearing sales, while the port supplied infrastructure for physical settlement.

The two companies appealed to the new Dutch government to swiftly take a position on the

role of biomass in the energy mix. After the June 9 elections, parties are still negotiating towards forming a government.

The initiative is supported by the Holland Financial Centre and Rotterdam Climate Initiative as it
