SEC charges Banco Santander head of European derivatives with insider trading


The US Securities and Exchange Commission filed a complaint against Banco Santander analyst Juan Jose Fernandez Garcia on August 20 for insider trading in the stock of fertilizer company Potash. Another man was charged with the same action, but is not connected to Banco Santander.

According to the complaint, the men conducted “highly profitable and highly suspicious trading…in the call option contracts…prior to an August 17, 2010 public announcement by Potash that it had received and rejected an unsolicited...
