Newedge chief targets fixed income, FX, commodities for Asian growth


Newedge is one of the leading futures brokers in Asia, but is not satisfied with that position. Laurent Cunin, who took over as Asia Pacific head in January, tells Colin Packham how he plans to grow the business and what areas he will be hiring in.

Asia’s listed derivative market is enjoying a new boom, driven by fast-growing volumes in China and India – even though the more open markets of the Pacific rim are making much more modest progress.

This upswing is drawing in trading firms and brokers from Europe and the US to open offices in Singapore and Hong Kong. But Newedge is not among them. The firm feels strongly that it is no newcomer to Asia.
