APX-Endex to launch wood pellet trading
APX-Endex will launch wood pellet trading in mid-2011.
The exchange has published a price index for industrial wood pellets since 2008. The index has evolved over the past two years and the number of pricing panel members has expanded. APX-Endex will provide the trading platform as well as clearing and settlement. The Port of Rotterdam will set up the infrastructure for physical delivery of the pellets.
Wood pellets are increasingly being used as fuel as some policymakers believe they can help to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, though this is disputed.
