CFTC halts political event trading


The US commodities regulator has moved to prevent trading on the outcome of political elections.

The North American Derivatives Exchange (Nadex) confirmed it has been informed by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) that its application to trade political event options had been placed under a 90-day review.

It followed strong criticism of the exchange by CFTC commissioner Bart Chilton who said the contract launch raised "significant concerns".
